Maasai Village Visit

This morning after a crack of dawn game drive through Amboseli National Park, we visited a nearby Maasai village. The villagers came out to greet us with song and a prayer, then welcomed us into their homes.

The village spokes person the gave a very interesting lecture that included information about local herbal medicine. Finally, we were given a small demonstration of their fire starting technique, using the rotating stick method.

Lastly, the women and men separated so that the men could talk about sex and the women could share cross cultural techniques for controlling men.

Above, the village spokesman poses with Lisa and out tour director Anna outside the village.

Here our Maasai protector shows us that he fully understands the concept of “photo bomb.”

The chief crowns Ken big kahuna for the day and bids him show the warriors how to really leap in the air… his leap was so high that it went out of frame, so we are stuck with this grounded photo.

Sharon says high to the family who’s home we were invited to visit. The Maasai and all the people of Kenya and Tanzania we’ve met are the definition of friendly.
