Mt. Kenya National Park
This morning we motored off with an early start to the national park. This park is famous as the white rhino nursery and home to the only two remaining Northern white rhinos 🦏 in existence today (pics of the pair in separate post to come).
The park is geared toward rhino viewing and it certainly didn’t disappoint! We saw at least a dozen, including the highly endangered black, the less endangered Southern white, and as I said above the two remaining Northern whites. Several sightings included mama/baby pairs.
The pic above was toward the end of the drive when we came across this pair of rhinos casually munching away in the middle of a dozen wart hogs, gazelle, and other game. The drivers were in a hurry to get us to the chimp sanctuary, but the viewing was so amazing that we begged him to let us stay and observe… he knew it was special and complied.
Above mama says hello to baby who was running all around checking out the other animals…aka play toys.
Baby stops to get a drink…playing is exhausting!
Wart hogs kept wandering around the rhinos.
Although we’re pretty jaded to the common zebra at this point, we did get our guide to stop for a baby feeding photo.
