Internal Soft Power On/Off

In my last post I alluded to the issues I had with Linux Mint when it came to support of an external second display. This is a gripe post on a similar/related topic. Specifically laptop manufacturers placing the power button on the main keyboard such that it is impossible to turn the laptop on or off with the lid shut. Their assumption is that since it’s a laptop you must want to use it with the built in display. The reality is that many folks like myself would greatly prefer to use the laptop with 27″+ display(s) when at my desk. With and external/side mounted power button, I could actually locate the laptop under or next to my desk saving precious desktop space, but since it’s not accessible with the lid closed I really can’t do that. To me that’s a total miss by the manufacturers.
