At one point I did consider looking into solar. But, with the weather patterns we have these days where it’s rain and clouds 200+ days out of the year, that would be a fool’s journey. Nope… sticking to good old dead dinosaur power for now.

A never before seen event just occurred! One of our smoke detectors started chirping about it’s battery in the middle of the afternoon instead of 2AM. For years I’ve wondered if manufacturers secretly included atomic clocks in their detectors to ensure they ONLY start beeping in the middle of the night.

Broke up over this quote in the Washington Post… “The Browns are the Browns”… enough said.

Disgusted at the action of this rider. I actually had the front brake “pulled” in the middle of a high-speed corner by incidental contact with another rider. It slammed me down mega hard and fast, tearing my bike into a zillion pieces and likely concussed me (though I never admitted it). I hope this dude gets banned from racing entirely.

This afternoon we went whale watching off the coast of Long Beach. It was quite overcast and we didn’t spot any whales. What we DID spot was a large pod of about 50 bottle nose dolphins who had a grand ol’ time leaping and frolicking in the bow wave and wake of our ship. Here are a few snapshots.

Some up close and personal video of the US Coast Guard demonstrating various rescue techniques in Long Beach harbor. These guys were so close that I ended up getting hit with some rotor wash.

Junior robotics competition at Long Beach Fleet Week. Amazing amount of creativity an effort went into each of the little robotic buggers. The participants were eager to explain all about their entries. Nothing like this when I grew up… not that I’d have had the cash to fee the habit anyway.
