Cincinnati OTR

To celebrate the birth of a new baby brother for Fiona and visit the Cincinnati Zoo for their Wild about Wine event, we took a quick weekend trip to the Queen City. Rather than stay close to the river as we’ve done in the past, we booked our stay in a small boutique hotel in the Over-the-Rhine (OTR) district near 14th and Vine called the Symphony Hotel.

Symphony Hotel in the OTR District

The hotel was as you might expect very quint. It has a total of something like 7-9 rooms and each one is themed after a famous composer/musician. We booked the Rachmaninoff room for our stay and it was fully decked out with books, pictures, etc. associated with the composer/pianist.

The hotel manager, Malissa, was very nice, greeting us at the door, showing us around the hotel, and generally providing a fount of knowledge about the hotel itself and the surrounding area.

The Over-the-Rhine (OTR) district itself is a very vibrant area and we had a ton of fun just wandering around the place. The gals of course hit up just about every boutique in the area.

For me, the highlight of the trip was the street art/murals that were found on buildings all over the area.

This was one of the few trips where I didn’t bring my good camera. Nonetheless, I used my iPhone to it’s fullest extent to try and capture a few of the interesting murals we stumbled across. You can view what I did capture at the gallery below, but to be honest, I probably only captured a 10th of what’s there. If you get the chance, it’s well worth the trip to check it out!
