Mt. Kenya Safari Club

Yesterday, we left the wonderful Amboseli National Park behind time fly a bit further north into Kenya. As a parting gift, we were rewarded with a scene where two male lions were on the hunt, scattering antelope, gazelle, and a pack of a dozen spotted hyenas in front of them. Unfortunately, the guide had the vehicle top down, which afforded me zero opportunity to shoot any photos/video, so it only in my memory.

At the airport we boarded an AirKenya Dash-7 STOL plane and bounced off the runway for an uneventful 1 hr flight directly to our hotel; yes, the Fairmont has its own airport.

Once we arrived, we received a nice tour of the William Holden Animal Sanctuary where we heard about their great conservation work and were able to greet many animals close up.

In fact, at least in this case maybe a bit too close to some of Holdens pet llamas 🦙.

The Fairmont Mt. Kenya Safari Club is located on the equator at the foot of Mt. Kenya as its name implies.

Shortly after we arrived, we all participated in a crossing the equator ceremony, complete with screwy dancing and issuance of official certificates for each of us.

The safari club is an amazing place. It has the vibe of 40’s-50’s british luxury with birds scattered everywhere.
