Summer Sunflower Blooms
In mid-summer there are tons of different farms and fields planted with Sunflowers. One of the more popular areas that typically blooms in mid-July is the McKee-Beshers Wildlife Management Area. As you can see in the gallery of photos from my visit there in 2021 the blooms are stunning. Unfortunately, this year we missed the peak bloom at McKee-Beshers and had to look elsewhere. This afternoon we chose to check out Mary’s Land Farm in Clarksville, MD where they have a Sunflower Festival running for the first few weeks in August.

While it was nice to get out and view the blooms, to be straight out honest, I was a bit disappointed. As you can see from the photos, the flowers themselves were only a couple of feet high and the blossoms were about 1/2 the size of “normal” sunflowers. Also, the fields were quite over run with weeds to the point where you really didn’t get that nice carpet of yellow looks that I’ve seen in fields previously. That said, it was a nice day and the farm itself makes for a pretty cool visit.
